Small side-actuated tactile SMT switch

30 January 2002 Switches, Relays & Keypads

Designed to be compatible with surface-mount processes, the KMS microminiature side-actuated tactile switch from ITT Industries, Cannon measures only 4,6 by 3,5 by 1,42 mm. Available in a single-pole, single-throw configuration with normally-open contact, the switch features sharp tactile feedback.

The switch offers designers a large hard plastic actuator, robust construction, four solder terminals and a ground terminal on the switch case. To maximise safety in vacuum pick and place operations, KMS Series have a large flat top in its entirety (ie no holes or bumps). Technical specs include a maximum contact voltage of 50 V d.c., minimum/maximum current ratings of 1 mA/50 mA, and bounce of less than 3 ms. Life expectancy is 100K operations and contact resistance is less than 100 mOhm. Operating temperature is -40 to 85°C for switches with silver contacts and -40 to 125°C for gold contacts.

The switches are sealed against dust and flux ingress, and are suitable for infrared and lead-free soldering processes.
