Power Integrations announced an expansion of its SCALE-iDriver family of galvanically isolated single-channel gate driver ICs. The new devices support IGBT blocking voltages up to 1700 V, which are generally used in 400 V a.c. and 690 V a.c. line applications. They are also ideal for the latest three-level topology photovoltaic inverters and for photovoltaic arrays leveraging the new 1500 V d.c. bus standard.
1700 V SCALE-iDriver ICs, optimised for driving both IGBTs and MOSFETs, combine Power Integrations’ FluxLink magneto-inductive bidirectional communications technology with its SCALE power device driver technology.
The devices feature desaturation (short circuit) protection with Advanced Soft Shut Down (ASSD) functionality, providing reliable and easy-to-implement protection to the power switch. They deliver a gate current of up to 8 A and support systems of over 110 kW without an external booster, or up to 30 A gate current and over 400 kW with an external booster. They suit applications in industrial drives, power supplies/UPS, photovoltaic inverters of all sizes, industrial HVAC, EV charging and traction equipment including commercial EVs.
