Renesas Electronics announced the RL78/I1C group of microcontrollers for power metering, particularly targeting the smart metering markets. They have been designed to international standards, namely the DLMS standards, with enhanced security functionality and improved arithmetic operation. The devices are available in seven versions, with on-chip memory capacities ranging from 64 KB for low-end single-phase, to 128 KB for high-end single-phase and 256 KB for three-phase meter applications. As well as numerous package pin counts from 64 pins for space-saving requirements, 80 pins for single-phase metering aimed at use in emerging countries, to 100 pins for single-phase meters for use in advanced smart metering applications.
