Poynting helps bring KZN school online

22 February 2017 News

Poynting Direct has supplied Thembelihle Primary School in KZN with a host of equipment to help its students gain easy access to online information. According to Frank Vermeulen, the company’s general manager, “It is so important for today’s students to have access to online resources. We live in a digital world and at Poynting Direct we’ve aimed our social development programme at assisting schools who need help bringing their students online.”

As part of this programme, the company donated an X-Pol 6, B 315 LTE router, 2 metre mast and medium sized bracket to the school. The company also helped install all the equipment and ensured everything was up and running. For Thembelihle Primary, the donation came just in time for students who have entered three teams (consisting of four students each) into the Jaguar Primary School Challenge. This competition gives students the opportunity to design and engineer their own Jaguar race car.

Each student team consists of a design engineer, manufacturing engineer, graphic designer and team manager. The students will start by downloading the race car’s design template and from there, the design engineer will modify and implement their own researched ideas of race cars to this 2D template. The graphic designer will then add logos to the car’s design. Once the 2D template is complete, the team is responsible for manufacturing their unique design. Using Wi-Fi and an electronic card cutter, each team’s unique, specially designed Jaguar race car will be brought to life.

“Without online access these students wouldn’t be able to take on projects like the Jaguar Primary School Challenge,” says Vermeulen, “we’re very happy we could help them with the equipment and look forward to seeing their race car designs.”
