Encapsulated medical power supplies

10 August 2016 Power Electronics / Power Management

TDK-Lambda’s new KMS-A series comprises single output, medically certified 15–60 W encapsulated power supplies. With a Class II input, the products require no earth ground connection, making them ideal for use in medical, dental and home healthcare. They are also suitable for broadcast, test and measurement, and industrial equipment applications.

Covering three power levels – 15 W, 30 W and 60 W – the units are available with 5 V, 9 V, 12 V, 15 V and 24 V output voltages. Off-load power draw is less than 0,1 W for the KMS15A and KMS30A and below 0,3 W for the KMS60A, with efficiencies as high as 89%. All models can operate from a wide range input voltage of 90–264 V a.c.

The power supplies are suitable for board mounting and are enclosed in UL 94V-0 rated resin cases. The 15 W model measures 52,5 x 27,5 x 23,5 mm, the 30 W 64,0 x 45,0 x 23,5 mm, and the 60 W 89,0 x 63,5 x 27,0 mm. The products can operate convection cooled in ambient temperatures of -40°C to +85°C, with appropriate derating above 50°C, and have a maximum operating altitude of 5000 m.

The KMS-A series has been certified to UL/CSA/IEC/EN 60950-1, ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1, IEC/EN 60601-1 and carries the CE mark for the low voltage and RoHS2 directives. TDK-Lambda’s medical safety compliance extends to providing 4 kV a.c., 2 x MOPP (means of patient protection) input to output isolation and a touch current of less than 100 µA at 264 V a.c. All models comply with EN 55011-B (conducted and radiated) emissions and EN 61000-4-2 immunity standards.
