New concept embedded modules

Electronics Technology
When selecting CPU boards for industrial, PC-based applications, the usual problems include wrong size, unusable connector locations and missing special functions.
The classic way of solving such problems by developing a completely new design requires a lot of time and is not flexible enough to react to ever-changing market demands.
Jumptec's solution is ETX (Embedded Technology eXtended) - an open standard designed to fit the needs of embedded applications. It is supported by many board vendors who offer their own ETX designs. Complete PC functionality is provided within very compact ETX module dimensions of 114 x 100 mm. The use of a wide range of CPU classes also allows for performance scaleability.
Using only four high-density connectors, the ETX is placed on a customised baseboard that contains all of the custom application-specific functions. By splitting the standard and custom features between the baseboard and the plug-on module, Jumptec has developed a solution which offers a highly-flexible mechanical design with exceptional performance scalability. The design expense is reduced to that of a simple baseboard that provides the required add-on functionality and places the connectors exactly where they are needed.
Upgrading an ETX solution is simple: keep the baseboard and plug in the next-generation ETX module. The ETX module supports a wide range of performance CPUs, including the 486, Pentium III and X86 processors as well as the new Transmeta Crusoe architecture.
