About 15 years ago Siemens Components, at the time based in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, decided to appoint distributors to take over its 'counter sales'. They felt that smaller distributors could reach more of that sector of the market. Amongst those appointed was Electrocomp, based in Doornfontein. Within 18 months, Electrocomp was doing so well in marketing Siemens' products, the decision was taken to appoint them as sole distributor countrywide - the start of a long and successful partnership.
Both companies went to market as one, with Siemens servicing major OEMs and Electrocomp looking after the small to medium-sized customers. Electrocomp had grown substanially over the years and in 1998 the company built new premises in Linbro Business Park. Upon this development Siemens had no doubt that it would be the perfect time for the two companies to occupy the same premises. January 1999 saw the opening of the custom-built warehousing and offices and the coming together of an international giant in manufacturing and a nationally-respected distributor of electronic components had come to fruition.
The move proved a master stroke with both companies showing growth in a very tough market. Today, the Siemens Components/Electrocomp partnership still grows from strength to strength and will continue to service the market with the high standards of service delivery that the electronics industry has come to expect from it.
