The RTC4553, RTC457x, RTC6242x, RTC6342x, RTC6461x, RTC7242x from Epson offer advantages in terms of cost and availability due to wide usage and have become industry standards, according to the company. All Epson RTCs incorporate a crystal thereby eliminating a production tweak and due to the special low-power CMOS process offer low current drain. Automatic calendar functions with leap year correction, interrupt generation, supply voltage detection and optional SRAM ensure designs maintain the correct time.

The RTC4553 and RTC457x have a serial interface, the RTC6242x a 4 bit with OKI compatibility, and the RTC7242s has Intel ALE. The faster 8 bit RTC6461x enables the device to share the system SRAM bus.
