Based upon an industry standard 8051-compatible processor core, the FT51A from FTDI Chip brings enhanced I/O bridging to 8-bit MCU technology with integrated USB device and hub port capabilities, ideal for cascading distributed computing tasks over USB. Other I/O includes UART, SPI, I²:C, ADC and PWM, ideal for data acquisition and control applications, and supported with 16 KB internal program Flash and 8 KB data RAM to store and run applications. The FT51A acts as a USB hub supporting two downstream ports: the internal 8051 core and other peripherals (SPI, UART etc.), and an external downstream port (e.g. mouse, keyboard, mass storage device). The hub can optionally be disabled, resulting in the 8051 core appearing at the upstream port.
