Vacuum fluorescent displays offer more advantages

24 October 2001 Opto-Electronics

Advanced display technologies have for decades been the mainstay for Futaba Corporation. Futaba manufactures vacuum fluorescent displays (VFDs). These are present in the instrument panels of automobiles and car radios as well as the control panels of video components, televisions, and many other products. Futaba's VFDs offer a high degree of performance and reliability.

As information technology diversifies, new information-management techniques are being used. The Futaba VFD modules are brilliant, light-weight, and compact. VFD Modules enjoy extensive use as display devices for POS systems and other office, instrumentation, communication and peripheral equipment.

VFDs have excellent readability with a wide viewing angle and high reliability. A VFD module integrates a vacuum fluorescent display, a display controller, driver ICs and a power supply on a single PCB. A wide range of VFD modules are available and they combine the advantages of VFD technology with easy interface to host systems and 5 V input power supply design.

Futaba has recently developed an innovative line of VFD modules designed to replace a standard LCD module. These LCD emulators allow easy conversion from hard-to-read LCDs to vibrant vacuum fluorescent display without special programming or board customisation. Futaba is also creating new devices to meet the need for more aesthetic and vivid multicolor displays.
