High-density PoL power module

10 June 2015 Power Electronics / Power Management

Murata has added to its OKLP range of ‘Power Block’ products with a new 60 A version joining the existing 25 A and 35 A models. Most analog or digital PWM controllers can be used with the Power Block, and reference designs are available using Texas Instrument’s TPS40425, a 2-phase, stackable PMBUS synchronous buck controller.

The new OKLP-X/60-W12A-C sits between a discrete point-of-load (PoL) design and that of a complete non-isolated buck converter module. It is essentially a non-isolated buck converter without the PWM controller, and provides a single-package solution that incorporates all the power handling components, fully tested and characterised for thermal and dynamic performance.

The unit provides a regulated 0,6 – 3,63 V d.c. output of up to 60 A from a 7 – 13,2 V d.c. input and is suited for use in PoL applications. Efficiency (rated at 12 Vin and 3,3 Vout) is typically 95% and with its compact dimensions of 25,4 x 12,7 x 12,2 mm, high power density can be achieved.

The OKLP-X/60-W12A-C is ideally suited for powering FPGAs, ASICs and microprocessors, and providing I/O voltages in intermediate bus architecture applications.
