5000 W power supplies

6 August 2014 Power Electronics / Power Management

For high-power industrial applications, Mean Well has launched the new RST-5000 power supply series with a single output capable of sourcing up to 5000 W. It accepts a variety of three-phase input types, features active power factor correction, and provides the most frequently used industrial voltages of 24 V or 48 V d.c.

The units feature wide range adjustment for output voltage and current: the voltage can be trimmed between 20% and 120% of the rated voltage by a 1 – 6 V d.c. external control signal and the output current can be trimmed from 20% to 100% of the rated current by a 1 – 5 V d.c. control signal.

Thanks to a highly efficient design (up to 91%) and built-in fan, the RST-5000 can provide its full load output in 50°C ambient temperature. For overload protection, it features a continuous constant current limiting mode as well as a mode that performs constant current limiting with delayed shutdown after five seconds, suitable for handling various types of severe load.

For higher power demands, parallel operation of up to three units is possible for a total output of 15 000 W. Standard functions include remote sense, remote ON/OFF control, 12 V/ 0,1 A auxiliary power, alarm signal output (both relay contact and open collector signal) for AC fail, DC OK, fan fail and over-temperature protection.

The RST-5000 series carries international certification to UL, CUL, TUV, CB, CE and others, making it well suited to applications from automation and industrial control equipment, to laser engravers and telecommunication systems.
