Comtest will be hosting a series of workshops and seminars at its premises in Linbro Park in the months of July, August and September.
The first, a Fluke thermography workshop on 31 July, will be free of charge. Attendees will learn about basic theory and applications for thermography technology, as well as how to choose the right camera for the job and the use of SmartView software.
Those interested in attending should contact the presenter, Jeanri Mellanby, at [email protected].
Next on the calendar is the Installation and earth testing seminar, to be held on 13 August, also at no cost to attendees. To be presented by John Wilson, this event will review the technology implemented by the various tests that need to be done during the design, installation and commissioning phases of a new electrical system. This includes the measuring of soil resistivity to design the correct earth method for that site, then ensuring that the correct insulation and installation tests are performed before the system goes live.
This seminar will also look at what is required to maintain a live system to ensure that it operates efficiently and, most importantly should a serious fault occur, that the system will absorb the fault energy and keep the system safe. This includes the monitoring of power quality and load distribution, cable conditions and on-line earth checking.
In each case the presenter will briefly discuss why each test is performed, how the instrumentation does the actual test and what type of result to expect. He will also discuss which pieces of equipment need calibration and why. Where possible, there will be a demonstration of the actual tests being conducted on a live installation or, if this is not possible, on a simulated system.
An application has been made to the NLA to secure CPD points grading for this seminar. RSVPs should be referred to [email protected].
Finally, on 25 – 29 August, certified Snell Level I thermography training will be offered (at a cost of R17 000 excl. VAT), followed by Level II training (R20 300 excl. VAT) from 1 – 5 September.
Level I – Thermographic Applications - covers the principles of how to ‘Think Thermally’, basic heat transfer theory, electrical applications, mechanical equipment, building systems, roof inspections, use of thermal imaging equipment and proper image acquisition.
Level II – Advanced Thermographic Applications - provides essential training for the professional thermographer, offering greater depth and analysis on surface heat transfer, temperature measurement techniques, prioritising findings, procedures and camera operation.
