Poynting gets Brazilian boost

16 July 2014 News

Local antenna specialist Poynting Antennas has scored big with contracts to supply antenna systems for two separate projects in Brazil.

The first deal cemented by the company’s Defence and Specialised division, which focuses on design, development, manufacture and sales of electronic warfare (EW) and communications antennas and related RF equipment, is for a strategic Brazilian homeland security project. This takes the form of a multi-year supply contract to provide a multinational group with several advanced fixed direction finding antenna systems.

This unnamed Brazilian aeronautical and defence group has acquired the intellectual property rights to make certain Poynting antennas in Brazil in a move that supports its own growing RF design capabilities. As part of the contract, key staff from Poynting will be involved in various training and setup initiatives of this new manufacturing operation in the coming year.

The company also won a significant order from Brazilian spectrum management authorities via a test and measurement spectrum analyser manufacturer. Under this contract it will supply its specialist DF handheld antennas used in mobile based spectrum monitoring. These antennas are said to enable spectrum analyser manufacturers to address direction finding markets previously unavailable to them due to a lack of appropriate antennas.

Juergen Dresel, managing director of Poynting’s Defence and Specialised division, says there has been a substantial rise in interest in the company’s antenna capabilities from Brazil over the past two years. “With Brazilian homeland security and infrastructural budgets being significant in terms of global spending, Poynting is confident to win more Brazilian business following the trend of global economic expansion of the BRICS nations,” he said.
