Wireless microcontrollers

Silicon Labs’ Si106x/8x wireless microcontrollers (MCU) combine high-performance wireless connectivity and ultra-low power microcontroller processing in a small 5 x 6 mm form factor.

Support for major frequency bands in the 142 to 1050 MHz range is provided, including an integrated advanced packet handling engine and the ability to realise a link budget of up to 146 dB (up to +20 dBm output power and -126 dBm sensitivity @ 500 bps, GFSK).

The devices have been optimised to lower energy consumption for battery-backed applications by minimising TX, RX, active and sleep mode current, as well as supporting fast wakeup times. The Si106x family is pin-compatible with the Si108x devices and can scale from 8 to 64 KB of Flash, and provides a robust set of analog and digital peripherals including an ADC, dual comparators, timers and GPIO.

All devices are designed to be compliant with the 802.15.4g smart metering standard and support worldwide regulatory standards, including FCC, ETSI and ARIB.

The Keil compiler that supports these MCUs can be downloaded free of charge on www.silabs.com; this is not a limited code version but a version that can handle the memory size of the entire range, in other words compilation of up to 64 KB of Flash. Silicon Labs has also introduced a software package called WDS, which aids in the compilation of the radio software for the wireless MCU.
