High-power supplies for medical use

9 October 2013 Power Electronics / Power Management

In response to the medical market requiring reliable, high wattage power supplies, Mean Well has rolled out the 450 W AC/DC enclosed type MSP-450 series to complement its existing 100 W, 200 W and 300 W ranges.

The new units comply with international medical safety regulations (MOOP level) and EMI Class B level. Featuring low leakage current (less than 300 A at 264 V a.c.), they can fulfil the high-quality demands of medical applications and are good power solutions for non-patient contact medical applications.

Featuring an 85 – 264 V a.c. universal input, the MSP-450 provides 3,3 V to 48 V output options and possesses up to 89,5% efficiency. Its built-in DC fan can provide sufficient cooling for ambient temperatures between -40°C and +70°C. The units also feature no-load power consumption below 0,6 W, making them suitable for ‘green mode’ medical equipment or electronic devices.

Other standard functions include protections against short circuit, overload (constant current mode), over-voltage and over-temperature, 300 V a.c. input surge immunity for 5 seconds, remote on/off control, remote sense and DC OK signal output.

Measuring 218 x 105 x 41 mm and offered with a five-year warranty, the MSP-450 series complies with global medical certificates per UL/CUL/CB/CE to ensure users’ safety. Suitable applications include medical equipment requiring low leakage current, chemical or biological detection equipment, analysis facilities, and any systems requiring low no-load power consumption.
