Infineon’s new 650 V CoolMOS C7 series is designed to deliver high performance to hard-switching topologies in power factor correction (PFC) and similar applications. These new devices are the successors to the CP series and increase efficiency across the whole load range by balancing a number of key parameters.
The series’ low RDS(on) boosts full-load efficiency, raising the performance of proven BiC CoolMOS C6 devices in TO-220 packages and TO-247 packages. Reduced EOSS improves efficiency at light load while low Qg increases switching speed and reduces Eon and Eoff, which improves efficiency across the entire load range.
In addition to balancing various parameters to optimise performance, the C7 series is easier to implement and use than the CP series. 650 V gives designers an extra safety margin and makes the new series suitable for SMPS and solar inverters.
