The ADPV18B-V from HG Power is an 85–265 V a.c. input to 12 V/1,5 A (18 W) DC desktop power supply that has become popular in the South African market for use in applications related to POS terminals and GSM applications, among others. According to its local distributor, NuVision Electronics, over 20 000 units have been sold in SA since January 2012.

The unit features a protection MOV to effectively handle the mains surges and lightning strikes commonly encountered in South Africa. It carries not only CE approvals but has also acquired SABS approval by passing all the relevant local EMI requirements and tests carried.

The standard version of the PSU is supplied with a 2,1 mm DC plug termination, while another version is also available with a 2-pin moulded Molex connector which offers a more secure termination to the end user’s solution. The mating part on the mains side of the PSU is by means of a figure 8 to mains 15 A plug with a cable length of around 1,5 m (supplied with the unit). The mains plugs can be the standard 3 prong, 15 A type or dedicated 3 prong mains plug (with flat earth pin) required in some applications when connected to the ‘clean’ earth.
