Compact light engines

31 October 2012 Opto-Electronics

Bivar has announced its L2 family of ‘starboard’ light engines, optimised for high output, high colour rendering index (CRI) and uniformity, making them ideal for directional lighting applications in both indoor and outdoor environments.

The devices feature Cree’s XLamp design and has a unique case temperature test point for engineers to confirm the effectiveness of their thermal management, while maximising the luminous output with the junction temperature under control. Optional pin headers allow for quick hook-up, thus eliminating the delicate soldering process.

The L2 family is comprised of three product families: the PG series, ML series and TG series.

The PG series is suitable for applications such as parking areas, headlamps, bike lights, emergency lights and solar-powered lighting. Light output is 80–97 lumens at 350 mA and 125–152 lumens at 600 mA, while 472–660 lumens at 1500 mA can be achieved with thermal management.

The light sources offer viewing angles of 85, 35 and 45/25 degrees, a low voltage input of 3 V d.c., correlated colour temperature (CCT) of 3100 K/4100 K/6500 K and colour rendering index (CRI) of 80/75/75.

The ML series is targeted at track lighting, accent lighting, solar-powered lighting, high and low bay, LED light bulbs and roadways. Specific product features include typical luminous output of 103–144 lumens at 400 mA and 169–236 lumens at 750 mA (472–660 lumens at 3000 mA with thermal management) and CRI of 80/75/65.

ML series light engines have a viewing angle of 125 degrees, 2,9 V d.c. input and CCT of 3100 K/4100 K/6500 K.

Finally, the TG series is suitable for applications such as recessed ceiling lighting, retail display lighting, landscape lighting, locomotive lamps, aircraft landing lights, and theatre/concert lighting. It boasts typical luminous output of 130–141 lumens at 200 mA, 148–160 lumens at 350 mA and 566–660 lumens at 2500 mA with thermal management.

These light sources offer a viewing angle of 120 degrees, input voltage of 5,6 V d.c., CCT of 3000 K/4000 K and CRI of 80/80.
