Inductive proximity sensors

17 October 2012 Test & Measurement

With its GX-M series, Panasonic Electric Works has introduced a family of cylindrical proximity sensors for a variety of applications. Users have four types with a total of 30 variations at their disposal:

* 3-wire shielded type in the sizes M8, M12, M18 and M30

* 3-wire non-shielded type in the sizes M12, M18 and M30

* 2-wire standard type in the sizes M8, M12, M18 and M30

* 2-wire long-range type in the sizes M8, M12, M18 and M30

The rated sensing distance for the devices ranges from 1,5 to 22 mm. Each type is available as normally open or normally closed, with a cable (2 m) or plug-in (M12) connection (except for the M8 size). For the 3-wire version, all models are equipped with a short-circuit transistor output (PNP or NPN).

The GX-M series comes in a robust metal housing and boasts an IP68 degree of protection. All models incorporate an LED indicator that displays the operation status. The sensors work at an operating voltage of 12 to 24 V d.c. and an ambient temperature of -25°C to +70°C.

The sensors are especially suited for positioning and object recognition tasks in machine building as well as the automobile and electronics industry. Ample possibilities for application can also be found in robotics, mounting and handling systems.
