Available from Spescom MeasureGraph through optical test specialist, GN Nettest/PK Technology, are the Model 8000 production and laboratory OTDR, and the Model 4791 Optical Spectrum Analyser (OSA) module.
The first, the Model 800 OTDR, features a highly flexible optical platform, which supports up to eight wavelengths and multiple receivers. Optical unit configurations include standard and high performance single-mode, multimode and a combined single-mode/multimode design. Most of these configurations are also available in application-optimised designs for fibre, cable and R&D testing applications. Standard optical unit options include internal optical switching and high performance FC-APC connectors.
Test technicians can control the Model 8000 optical unit through a fully customisable, Visual Basic 'front panel' which runs under Windows NT on the 8000's Pentium PC controller. This OTDR front panel software also provides display of both realtime and averaged fibre signatures, as well as span and event analysis capability. The 8000's component object model (COM) control software simplifies integration of the 8000 into a factory data retrieval network, and also provides direct remote control capability via the distributed COM interface.
The second test tool, the optical spectrum analyser (OSA) module, is an essential tool for installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of DWDM systems. Used in GN Nettest's CMA4000 optical test system, the Model 4791 OSA can monitor over 400 channels for wavelength, power, signal-to-noise ratio, channel spacing and drift.
The CMA4000 optical test system provides the most complete test and measurement solution for the all-optical network, claims the manufacturer, providing user-efficiency and increasing productivity with 10 GHz channel spacing (0,08 nm) and 400 automatic channel display. It has a modular design, and can be configured to meet demanding requirements for a variety of applications from fault location to the complete characterisation of ultra-high density DWDM systems.
