Outdoor telecoms connectors

11 July 2012 Interconnection

Webb Industries is reporting high demand for the Telegärtner range of telecommunications outdoor connectors (TOC), which Webb has hailed as a new dimension in outdoor cabling. The company’s MD Paul Richards says TOC offers network professionals unprecedented reliability and flexibility required for outdoor applications.

“While TOC connectors are used for data and telecommunications in mobile radio, process, utility and traffic automation, their versatility is such that they can also be used in harsh environment applications like machine and plant engineering,” says Richards. He adds that, typical of Telegärtner, they are also very handy and easy to install.

The TOC series is suitable for integration into any electronic SFP+ interface or as a standalone interface for IP68 outlets. All connectors in the series are compliant with the specifications of the IP68 protection class and, due to their material properties, can be used in a temperature range from -40°C to 85°C. In addition to the standard range, customised versions with other materials such as stainless steel are available on request.

The TOC series comprises both RJ45 Cat 6A and fibre-optic (FO) interface and is available in two types:

The TOC Fix features defined integration of the RJ45 Cat 6A or FO plug and bulkhead inserts. The plug and bulkhead inserts have a fixed position in the plug housing and are adjusted to each other.

The TOC Flex has been developed especially for adaptation to different connector alignments between the plug and bulkhead inserts. It is suitable for applications in which the plug axis can be optimally adjusted on site (x, y, z axis) by the choice of different bulkhead inserts. The TOC Flex simplifies the printed circuit board integration in electronic equipment. The plug insert and the plug housing are screwed to the bulkhead in one motion during installation.
