Phoenix Contact has developed a square plug connector for electric motors, in which the terminal board and the terminal box have been moved to the external motor connector. The motor thus becomes a standard module that can remain untouched during installation or removal.
The motor plug connector combines signals and power in parallel in one housing. Both cables are connected without requiring any tools using the push-in connection system. The spring-loaded terminals can accept conductor cross sections up to 2,5 mm². The stripped ends of the conductors are inserted with or without ferrules into the appropriate opening in the insulator, where the conductor is firmly clamped in compliance with industry specifications.
The star-delta changeover is realised in the same working step. The jumper to configure the duty type is appropriately inserted and the connection is established. Installation instructions are not required and wiring errors are completely ruled out.
In the field, the motor only has to be mechanically installed and, where required, coded. The electrical connection and definition of the duty type are exclusively realised using this plug connector. When service is required, the connector can be simply released from the motor and the system can continue to operate. As a consequence, the costs that can be saved are higher than those of a plug connection in classic motor terminal boxes.
