Toroidal core sample kit

7 March 2012 Passive Components

Vacuumschmelze has introduced an updated version of its Core Sample Kit, a selection of standard nanocrystalline Vitroperm toroidal tape-wound cores for EMC applications.

The practical plastic case contains a selection of 55 cores in various types and sizes up to 45 mm. The kit is intended for filter development in switched-mode power supplies, uninterrupted power supplies, welding systems, frequency converters, solar inverters, etc. With this core range, common mode chokes with operating currents up to approximately 80 A can be designed. Containing cores with graduated permeability ranges from 18 000 to over 100 000, the kit provides extended scope for laboratory experimentation and EMC developers.

Vitroperm nanocrystalline common mode chokes demonstrate broadband attenuation properties even at high operating temperatures of up to 150°C. Thanks to a combination of high permeability and high saturation flux density of 1,2 T, highly compact common mode chokes with few turns and excellent high-frequency characteristics can be designed. Due to their high inductance requiring few turns for a given inductance, VAC chokes typically have a large copper cross-section, which reduces copper losses and improves system efficiency.
