Medical power supplies

26 October 2011 Power Electronics / Power Management

TDK-Lambda has introduced the 65 Watt MWS65 series of open-frame, medical AC-DC power supplies.

With 4 kV a.c. reinforced input to output isolation and output to ground isolation of 1500 V a.c., all models in the family comply with UL/EN60601-1 editions 2 and 3 safety approvals for medical equipment and, with the convenience of onboard dual fusing, are ideal for use in B (body) and BF (body floating) type medical applications.

Using innovative design techniques to combine high efficiency and high power density, the power supply also has less than 0,3 W no-load input power. With an industry standard footprint of 5 x 10 cm and 25,4 mm profile, the MWS65 is a compact, convection cooled unit also suitable for use in light industrial equipment, point-of-sale terminals and displays, test and measurement and broadcast applications.

Operating from a universal 90 to 264 V a.c. input, the power supply is offered in five models with nominal outputs of 5 V (11 A), 12 V (5 A), 15 V (4,4 A), 24 V (2,8 A) and 48 V (1,4 A), which are user adjustable by ±10%. With a flat efficiency curve of up to 89%, from 20% to 100% load, the MWS65 can be operated at full load from -20°C to 50°C ambient temperature and up to +70°C with suitable derating. Over-voltage and over-current protection are standard.
