GPRS remote terminal unit

28 September 2011 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

The GT-540 from ICP DAS is a standalone remote terminal unit designed to suit most M2M GPRS applications. In addition to a 32-bit CPU, it features a GPRS/GSM module, six digital inputs, two digital outputs, one analog input, two RS232 ports, one RS485 port and one Micro SD slot. The GT-540P provides additional GPS functionality. Besides its built-in I/O, up to three Modbus RTU devices can be linked to the RS485 port.

The device provides two communication methods. The first is the transfer of the local I/O, GPS and Modbus devices’ data via GPRS connection. The GPRS RTU will automatically transfer data to a remote M2M RTU centre at a defined period or on digital/analog input triggers. The manufacturer also provides multiple software options including M2M RTU centre, M2M RTU Win32 API library and OPC server for RTU devices. The second communication method involves the sending of I/O data to a specific e-mail address.

The simple I/O linkage function of the GT-540 series enables real-time control, while its I/O datalogger function saves I/O and GPRS data on a micro SD card. The unit can also accommodate an external lithium battery for temporary backup power if the main power source fails.
