Solar inverters

31 August 2011 Power Electronics / Power Management

New from Mean Well is the ISI-500 series of 500 W DC/AC modified sine wave inverters with MPPT (maximum power point tracking) solar charger. These standalone solar inverters can be used to construct energy-saving power stations by adding only external lead-acid batteries and solar panels.

Digitally controlled by microprocessor and using a high-frequency topology, the units are lightweight and up to 88% efficient. They can provide 500 W rated power continuously (350 W for 12 V). Peak load capability includes 110% rated power for 1 minute and high surge power up to 200% rated value for 30 utility cycles. The conversion efficiency of the MPPT solar charger is up to 98%, and it can adjust the output voltage and current of the solar panel to charge the battery bank and get the maximum solar energy through the panels.

The inverters are equipped with protection including input reverse polarity, BAT low alarm, BAT low shutdown, and BAT over-voltage, as well as short circuit, inverter overload, over temperature for the output side. Other standard functions include a power on/off switch, LED indicator and BAT low relay contact signal.

The ISI-500 series complies with global safety certificates per CE, FCC, LVD (IEC60950-1) and are suitable for powering all kinds of lighting fixtures, home appliances and portable equipment in remote areas where utility supply cannot be accessed.
