Bundled telecoms cable

3 August 2011 Interconnection

Webb Industries has introduced the LMR bundled cable from its long-time principal, Times Microwave Systems. The bundled cable is a spiral configuration of multiple, high-quality, low-loss, flexible 50 Ω coax feeder cables under a common polyethylene outer jacket. According to Webb’s Fanie Viljoen, this innovative design acts as an ideal feeder cable for multiple run applications including smart antenna feeders and IF and RF runs to tower-mounted amplifiers for cellular, point-to-point, broadband wireless, microwave backhaul or WiMax systems.

A unique, patented grounding fixture grounds the outer shields of each cable and a rugged end-cap seals the bundle to prevent moisture ingress at the break-out point. The benefits of the bundled cable include fewer cable runs, fewer ground kits, fewer cable clamps required, less wind load, reduced labour and material costs and greater system reliability. The unit is fitted with a rip cord facilitating easy removal of outer jacket and the inner cables are labelled with an identifier every 15 cm.
