Power resistors

11 May 2011 Passive Components

Bourns has introduced two new power resistor series – one in surface mount format and the other a through-hole type.

Model PWR263S-35 is a surface mount resistor rated to 35 W continuous power in a D2PAK package; the free to air power rating of the component is 2,8 W. The resistor is designed to withstand peak temperatures of 260°C during solder reflow. The parts are available in tubes of 50 units or reels of 500 units. Model PWR220T-35 is a radial-leaded resistor rated to 35 W continuous power in a TO-220 style package, with a free to air power rating of 2,8 W. It has a sealed thermoset plastic housing and is designed to be placed with its nickel-plated copper back against a heatsink for higher power dissipation.

The wide resistance range, pulse power handling and low inductance make both of these resistor series a good choice for functions such as current limiting, current sensing, capacitor discharge in battery charging, AC/DC , DC/DC and DC/AC conversion circuits in uninterruptible power supplies, welding machines, automation, lighting, telecom power supplies, aerospace, automotive and railway equipment.
