Power supplies for LED displays

27 October 2010 Power Electronics / Power Management

Mean Well’s new HSP-250 series of 125–250 W AC/DC power supplies are designed specifically for LED display applications.

The enclosed type modules features active power factor correction and provide three low output voltage models (2,5 V/3,6 V/5 V, 50 A), which are designed to drive RGB LED chips.

The power supplies utilise LLC circuit design topology which enables efficiency up to 87%, even for low output voltage models. With a built-in long life DC fan, they can be operated from -40°C to +50°C ambient temperature under full load condition and up to +70°C by suitable derating. In order to operate in the humid and dusty environments typical of LED display installations, the HSP-250 series is equipped with basic anti-moisture and anti-dust ability thanks to conformal coating protection on the PCB.

To solve the voltage drop problem caused by output wiring, the units integrate a remote sense function to compensate. Other standard functions include cooling fan ON/OFF control, short circuit, overload, over-voltage and over-temperature protections. In addition, all series comply with UL, CUL, TUV, CB and CE standards. Applications include LED electric displays, LED TV walls and LED moving signs.
