Dual-channel regulator

18 August 2010 Power Electronics / Power Management

The MP20142 from Monolithic Power Systems is a dual-channel, low-dropout linear regulator with programmable output voltage, which exhibits low noise and high PSRR. Its output voltage ranges from 1,2 V to 3,3 V in 100 mV increments and 2,5% accuracy by operating from a +2,5 V to +5,5 V input. The different output voltage options can be programmed by setting the voltage of two control pins to VDD, GND or floating. There are nine different voltage settings in one chip and each output channel can supply up to 200 mA of load current.

The IC uses two internal p-channel MOSFETs as the pass devices, which consumes 150 μA supply current when both channels are enabled at no-load condition. Two enable pins control each output individually. When both channels shut down simultaneously, the chip turns off and consumes nearly zero operation current, making it suitable for battery-power devices. The MP20142 also features current limiting, output discharge and over-temperature protection, and is available in a TQFN8 (2 x 2 mm) package.
