Smartcard connector with card guide

Amphenol's new smartcard connector with wiping contacts for PCB mounting incorporates an advanced design. Additional features on the top cover guarantee a reliable card level support. Due to this the connector also suits applications with permanently inserted cards under changing temperatures. Furthermore, the extended card guide system serves for an improved card insertion and eliminates the need for the system designer to incorporate such guides in his housing, or front panel.
The smartcard connector meets the EMV integrated circuit card specification for payment systems (Europay Mastercard Visa) and can therefore be successfully used in payment systems. The connector has a switch which indicates whether a card is in the reading position. Self-cleaning contacts allow it to be used under rougher environment conditions and it is also suitable for soldering processes with flux and/or following cleaning processes.
The special shape of the contacts protects the surface of the card even though they are wiping contacts. The solder pins are designed for the use with all conventional PC boards, be they rigid or flexible. Snap-in hooks enable a simple and quick positioning on the board. The smartcard connector is also available in standard or 3 mm standoff versions - the latter saves PCB space. Connector layout and the dimensions are compatible with the other ISO 7816 standard products.
Amphenol's smartcard connector is suitable for applications such as TV/satellite decoders, point of sale systems, computer networks and energy meters.
