Semtech’s SX8652 is a low-power 4- or 5-wire resistive touch screen controller with an SPI interface. The device measures 1,46 x 1,96 mm and exhibits ±15 kV ESD protection. It supports the 5 MHz SPI serial interface protocol and has an operating voltage range of 1,65 V to 3,7 V. The SX8652 features a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter for coordinates and touch pressure measurement and can achieve an equivalent throughput output rate of 74 KSps. With current consumption as low as 23 μA at 8 KSps and the ability to enter low-power states automatically between conversions, this controller is well suited for portable and battery-powered devices. The chip incorporates a dedicated hardware/RESET pin, a built-in pre-processing algorithm for data averaging and an on-chip programmable settling time feature which can be used to optimise the throughput rates for a wide array of touch panel designs.
