Contactless position sensor

23 June 2010 Test & Measurement

Piher’s new PSC360 contactless sensor is designed to overcome the limitations of potentiometric solutions, such as wear and limited electrical angle. Featuring a compact design, the new sensor enjoy highly extended mechanical life and up to 360° electrical angle (without dead band).

The angular information output is selectable between 12-bit analog, programmable 12-bit pulse width modulation and serial protocol (14-bits signal + diagnostic). Full redundancy can be achieved by employing a dual-core version or by the simple placement of two sensors within the housing. A configurable switch output is integrated within each sensor and positive slopes and one negative slope can be programmed in the same transfer characteristic. A panel mount package for bush mounting and special shafts/connectors can be used according to customer requests.

Typical applications include absolute rotary position sensors, industrial joysticks, brake position sensors, non-contacting potentiometers, float-level sensors, motor shaft position sensors, precision robotics, industrial equipment and HVAC monitoring and control.
