Micrel has launched the MIC47050, a 0,5 A high-speed, ultra low dropout regulator (ULDO) with input voltage capability down to 1,0 V. It is designed to take advantage of applications that utilise multiple supply rails to generate low-voltage,high-current power supplies. The device is suitable for point-of-load, DSPs, PLDs, PDAs, FPGAs and low-voltage post-regulation applications.
“Many new point-of-load applications are beginning to use 1,8 V as a main input power distribution rail while providing output voltages from 1,25 V to 0,5 V to power low voltage processor and microcontroller cores,” noted Andy Khayat, business unit director of Micrel’s portable products group. “The low Vin capability of Micrel’s new device provides a high efficiency solution for the system designer.”
The NMOS output stage of the MIC47050 enables the ability to respond very quickly to sudden load changes required by a microprocessor, DSP or FPGA. It can source up to 0,5 A of output current while only requiring a 1 μF ceramic output capacitor for stability. The device offers an operating voltage range of 1,0 V to 3,6 V input supply, 2,3 V to 5,5 V bias supply and only 44 mV dropout at full load. It comes with a 0,4 V to 2,0 V output voltage range and a PSRR of
>55 dB at 1 kHz. The IC also gives designers high output voltage accuracy of ±1,5% initial and ±2% over temperature.
The MIC47050 is housed in a 2 x 2 mm MLF package for applications with limited board space. It features an operating junction temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
