3 W white LED

9 June 2010 Opto-Electronics

Avago Technologies has announced a compact and energy efficient 3 W LED for use in a wide range of solid-state lighting applications. With dimensions of 5 x 4 x 1,85 mm, the ASMT-Jx32 is packaged in a 6-leaded small outline package (SOP) and is capable of being driven to up to 700 mA to provide high flux output performance. The LED emitter is available in cool white, neutral white and warm white colours. By delivering a high flux output of a minimum of 100 lumens at 350 mA driving current, it is suitable for safety exit and emergency lighting, portable lighting applications, street lighting, residential lighting, task lighting and other solid-state lighting applications requiring high flux output performance.

The ASMT-Jx32 provides a wide viewing angle of 140° to meet the needs of designers who require good colour uniformity. It can handle high thermal and high drive currents and features a maximum allowable junction temperature of 135°C to provide design flexibility to lighting designers. The LED has high electrostatic discharge (ESD) resistance of 16 kV and is compatible with standard SMT reflow soldering process. It is encapsulated in a heat- and UV-resistant silicone material and also features a low thermal resistance of 9°C/W due to its heat dissipation capability. The electrically neutral heat pad allows arrays to be connected on a common heatsink to simplify thermal design.
