The IDEAL cable tester is an electronic device used to verify the electrical connections in a cable or other wired assembly. It is also used to verify that all of the intended connections exist and that there are no unintended connections in the cable being tested, as well as detect faults such as shorts, opens, miswires, reversals and split pairs.
The tester performs cable testing in two phases: the first phase, called the opens test, makes sure each of the intended connections is good and the second phase, called the shorts test, makes sure there are no unintended connections. A resistance test provides information on the resistance that is going through a connection which enables the user to see if the connections are functioning properly.
The unit includes one remote to enable one-person testing and offers a debug mode for fault and pair identification.
