Profibus connectors

9 June 2010 Interconnection

ERNI Electronics has expanded its well established ERbic fieldbus connectors for the Profibus, CANbus and SafetyBus standards. Redesigned and easy to use Profibus switch versions with or without a programming interface are now available. The new fieldbus connectors benefit from the latest ERNI Type 8 D-Sub connector generation offering high precision, stability and contact reliability.

With the new ERbic Profibus versions the external dimensions have been reduced and all enclosed parts are preassembled. An exchangeable cable strain relief for cable diameters from 6–9 mm (8 mm premounted) is available. To meet various application requirements, different well established cable connection techniques are offered, such as IDC terminals (provides fast connections and replaces the dismantling of the bus wires), cage clamp or screw terminals. The bus connectors can be imprinted using the standard ID plate.

The new devices need only a standard screwdriver for assembly/disassembly and provide visibility of switch status with a red lever. There is a large area for custom labelling, while neutral versions and variants with custom company logo can be supplied. The connectors are designed for data rates up to 12 Mbps in applications according to IP20.
