Power Innovations' TISPPBL programmable telecom surge protectors provide an assured route to international standards compliance for designers using Ericsson PBL3xxx series SLICs, backed by the endorsement of the SLIC manufacturer. The Ericsson SLICs not only have a voltage specification, but also require a complex voltage/time protection envelope. The TISPPBL protectors are guaranteed to be within this profile, greatly simplifying the design task for more than 25 different Ericsson PBL3xxx SLICs. The TISPPBL is rated across the complete voltage range of the SLIC, right up to 90 V.
The TISPPBL is available in SMD and through-hole packages, both offering convenient dual pin connections for the protected lines, optimised for correct in-line PCB layout. Comprehensive data is provided, detailing compliance with 100 A 2/10 ms GR-1089-CORE, 100 A 1,2/50 ms ITU-T K22 and a range of other International standards including K20, K21 and 13124. Since the TISPPBL is programmed by reference to the actual battery voltage, it automatically provides minimum stress to the SLIC, no matter what the supply voltage is.
With longer subscriber lines requiring higher current/higher voltage ringing signals, PI has used its specialised high voltage bipolar process to produce two models: the TISPPBL1, optimised for standard applications; and the TISPPBL2 which is rated for programmed line currents above 60 mA.
By using PI's high power integration capabilities, the TISPPBL not only combines pairs of high current diodes and thyristors on one chip, it also incorporates two high voltage, high gain buffer transistors to minimise the supply loading and prevent the charging of the SLIC power supply, which unbuffered protectors can generate, and which can lead to SLIC damage.
