New network device mapping software released for analyser

9 May 2001 Test & Measurement

Version 3 of Network Instruments' Link Analyst network device mapping software has been released. Enhancements to the latest version include a built-in web server for password-protected web access from any web browser to status and log statistics, more flexibility in pager notification, and support of XML for data export.

"Version 3.0 expands the reach of Link Analyst to any desktop anywhere," said Douglas Smith, President of Network Instruments. "We implemented these new features in response to customer feedback, making Link Analyst an even more valuable tool for IT managers."

Link Analyst is the first graphical network device mapping software to include route mapping and historical logging capabilities. Link Analyst complements diagnostic/troubleshooting solutions such as Observer, Network Instruments' flagship protocol analyser product, by offering the ability to detect network abnormalities, report device or route failures. Designed for both business managers and IT professionals, Link Analyst uses an intuitive, user-configurable interface to give users a quick and easy view of the status of each device on their LAN, WAN, or any route between, including 'drill-down' views showing device address, names, and response time histories.

Version 3 of Link Analyst includes a built-in web server, which provides access to Link Analyst data from any web browser, anywhere. Users can view a copy of the current map or route status as well as historical log statistics of any map or route. The data is password protected, and various access levels can be defined. The HTML reporting engine generates detailed, graphical reports, which can be easily distributed over the web.

XML output is rapidly becoming the format of choice in many installations. The latest version of Link Analyst now supports XML for data export, in addition to the comma-delimited support in previous versions.

The Link Analyst licence is for one PC on one site on one LAN and can be used to monitor an unlimited number of devices, LANs, WANs or routes. Link Analyst Version 3.0 is available at the current price of R3950 excl. VAT.
