The XRP7657 from Exar is a non-synchronous voltage mode PWM step-down (buck) regulator capable of a constant output current up to 2 A. A wide 4,75 V to 25 V input voltage range allows for single supply operations from industry standard 5 V, 12 V and 24 V power rails. In addition to a 2% output setpoint accuracy, this device provides high efficiency, low ripple and excellent line and load regulation. An enable function and soft start feature allow for controlled power-up sequencing implementation along standard protection circuitry.
The device operates at a fixed frequency of 420 kHz with efficiency as high as 94%. The output is adjustable over the range of 0,8 to 21 V. Protection circuitry for thermal, over-current and output short circuit conditions is built in. Potential applications include distributed power architectures, point of loads converters, set-top boxes, audio-visual equipment, and medical and industrial equipment.
