Half-brick converter with wide output range

3 February 2010 Power Electronics / Power Management

New from Power-One is the HBA48T12280, a highly efficient 350 W half-brick DC-DC converter for use in cellular infrastructure applications and more specifically to RF amplifier applications. The device has a smooth efficiency curve that equals or exceeds 90% for loading conditions ranging from 40% to 100%. Its ultra-wide trim range allows it to be configured to operate within a 21 to 33 V d.c. output, allowing it to be used across a multitude of RF amplifier technologies.

The converter features a 36–75 V d.c. input range, -40°C to 100°C operating temperature range, capability to withstand a 100 V input transient for 100 ms, ability to start up into pre-biased loads, and an onboard input differential LC filter. The HBA48T12280 has an industry-standard half-brick footprint (61 x 57,9 mm), a low 12,7 mm profile, and is RoHS compliant for all six substances.

Protections include output over-voltage and over-current, input under-voltage lockout, and over-temperature shutdown. The device has interface and trim capabilities including remote sense, remote ON/OFF (positive or negative logic option), and +18%/-25% output voltage trim ranges with industry-standard trim equations. Safety approvals include UL60950-1/CSA 22.2 No. 60950-1, EN60950-1 and IEC60950-1.
