Texas Instruments recently introduced an offline green mode pulse width modulation (PWM) controller that minimises space and system cost while providing high efficiency in power supply applications.
The UCC28610’s frequency and peak current modulation create efficiency levels of 85% at full load and high efficiency over the entire load range. The device uses very few external components compared to standard flyback controllers and is designed for applications with an output power range of 15 W to 65 W. Examples include AC-DC adapters, gaming, notebook and printer adaptors, LCD TVs and monitors, settop boxes, appliance power supplies and bias supplies.
Featuring 125 mW no-load power consumption, the UCC28610 incorporates over-current and overload protection. Its cascaded MOSFET configuration enables better line surge ruggedness than internal high-voltage FETs.
