austriamicrosystems has launched the AS1339, a tiny, highly efficient step-down regulator designed for multiband WCDMA/NCDMA and similar wireless applications. The device delivers up to 650 mA from an input voltage range of 2,7 to 5,5 V, making it well suited for single Li-Ion cells. To improve battery lifetime, low-power RF amplifiers can scale the output power dynamically by changing its supply voltage. To support this, the output voltage of the AS1339 is dynamically controlled using an external analog input signal. Additionally, the fast 30 μs settling time of the output voltage ensures that CDMA specifications are not exceeded. The device is housed in a 2 x 2 mm WL-CSP and its 2 MHz fixed switching frequency minimises PCB footprint by allowing the use of tiny, low-profile inductors and capacitors.
