Optical Spectrum monitor for DWDM

Test & Measurement
Anritsu's Optical Spectrum Monitor offers the transmission equipment supplier or network operator the ability to confirm their system performance and even to drop a single channel out to a BER tester. According to the company, the Pathfinder operating system allows the user to see measurement data in both spectral and power meter modes, signal to noise level and amplifier gain slope and gain tilt. The operator can view all measurement data via the simple GUI, can set alarm threshold levels to highlight changes in optical layer performance, in addition to selecting a specific channel of interest from which to feed traffic to an external data performance monitor.
The sale of individual wavelengths or 'lambda on demand' in DWDM systems means that network operators often need an independent way of confirming their ability to meet service level agreements (SLAs) with their customers. Proof is often required to show that each of the wavelength channels is present, does not drift, is of the correct power and causes no Bit Error Rate problems.
Applications
* Test a DWDM system from a central location.
* Perform proactive system testing.
* Provide an independent test function to demonstrate system ability to meet SLA requirements.
* Measure the specific traffic performance on any single channel.
* Optimise EDFA performance in the system.
The spectrum monitor wavelength range of 1535 to 1565 nm. ITU grid channels are pre-programmed; DWDM channel spacing 50 GHz for spectral measurements and 100 GHz for channel drop out; wavelength accuracy: ±0,05 nm; and spectral resolution: 0,3 nm at 3 dB.
