STM-4 and GSM transmission and service verification added to SDH tester line

25 April 2001 Test & Measurement

Sunrise Telecom, a leading provider of service verification equipment for telecommunications and Internet networks, has released the SunSet SDH STM-4, which according to the company, is the only product in the market today that combines SDH STM-1/4 testing capabilities with GSM service verification protocols in a single, compact unit.

Broadband evolution and developments to GSM systems, particularly in Europe, have sparked demand for this latest generation SDH handheld test unit. The implementation of GPRS to temporarily satisfy growing bandwidth demands within the wireless access network has resulted in more optical fibre being connected directly to several GSM network elements. Sunrise Telecom says that GSM service providers are now challenged to test SDH optical transmissions and GSM protocols converging in their networks, which is driving the need for transmission and service verification capabilities in a single, handheld unit.

The SDH STM-4 now offers dual optical wavelength interfaces allowing field technicians to test both 1310 nm and 1550 nm optical wavelengths from a single unit. Additionally, the unit now features a colour display to enhance screen clarity, and graphical main menu icons to improve the already user-friendly interface.

The SDH STM-4 features transmission testing for SDH (52, 155, and 622 Mbps), PDH (2, 34, and 139 Mbps), and T-carrier (1,5 and 45 Mbps) networks. Service verification capabilities include GSM Voice and TRAU access, in addition to GSM A-bis monitoring.

Offering advanced features in the testing industry, the SunSet SDH goes beyond basic transmission analysis to provide powerful, multifunctional service verification tools.
