Step-down voltage regulator

19 August 2009 Power Electronics / Power Management

The LM2576 series of regulators is ideally suited for easy and convenient design of a step-down switching regulator or buck converters. They are designed to minimise the number of external components and simplify the power supply design. Standard series of inductors for use with the devices are readily available.

Since the LM2576 converter is a switch mode power supply, its efficiency compares favourably with popular three terminal linear regulators. In many cases, the power dissipated is so low that no heatsink is required and the size of the converter or power supply can therefore be reduced dramatically.
