Mean Well has launched a new product range of open-frame power supplies – the PLP family – for low cost and built-in installation of LED lighting applications.
The PLP-30/60 series are 30 W/60 W switching power supplies with 90–264 V a.c. universal input range. The built-in active PFC function (PF>0,9) and EN61000-3-2 class C harmonic current approval can be achieved for output loading higher than 75%, meaning that the supplies fulfil the general requirement for lighting fixtures.
Thanks to the simplified single-stage PFC topology, the required high power factor can be achieved economically. Efficiency is as high as 89% which allows the modules to operate at full load between -30°C and +60°C using only free air convection, with the possibility to operate up to an absolute maximum temperature of 70°C, which is often necessary for lighting systems.
Through adjustment of a built-in potential meter, the output current level of the PSU can be fine tuned between 75% and 100% of the rated value to comply with specific LED characteristics. Other standard functions include short circuit, overload, and over-voltage protections. Typical applications include small scale moving signs, LED-based decorative lighting and LED stage lighting equipment having its own system casing.
