QNX Software Systems has announced that it is the first embedded OS vendor to offer 'instant-on' support for the Intel Atom processor. System designers looking to integrate the processor platform can achieve boot times of milliseconds using the QNX Neutrino operating system with fast boot technology.
In addition to start-up speed improvements, the fast boot technology in QNX Neutrino helps reduce the cost and component count of embedded systems. QNX fast boot technology eliminates the additional expense of a BIOS, reducing the overall bill of materials for embedded designs, while keeping RAM requirements to a minimum and lowering overall system complexity.
The new Intel Atom processor enables PC-like capabilities, an enhanced Internet experience, and long battery life in small portable devices.
Engineered for embedded applications that require instant-on performance, QNX fast boot technology is equally applicable to the automotive, consumer, military, medical and industrial markets. It also allows system designers to utilise the Intel Atom processor in products with applications that cannot tolerate the longer startup times of BIOS-based designs.
