Texas Instruments has developed the TMS320C2834x series of Delfino floating-point controllers for high-end control applications requiring high-performance, floating-point precision and optimised control peripherals to meet stringent system efficiency, accuracy and reliability requirements.
The controllers boost performance to 300 MHz and include 516 KB of single cycle access RAM memory, high resolution pulse width modulation outputs, 32-bit QEP modules as well as other control-oriented features. They are supported by two new modular controlCARD tools designed to jump start development of realtime control applications such as servo drives, renewable energy, power line monitoring and driver assistance.
The 300 MHz C28x core is optimised for fast interrupt response, minimal latency, execution of complex control algorithms and realtime data analysis. The 32-bit floating-point unit eases programming of magnitude calculations, eliminates scaling and saturation burden and improves performance of algorithms such as Park transforms and proportional integral derivatives.
CAN, I²C, SPI and standard serial interface peripherals provide easy connectivity for management of system communication. While an external ADC interface gives developers flexibility when selecting analog-to-digital converters. Code compatibility across the C2000 platform enables developers to scale product lines and re-use code in controllers ranging from the 40 MHz Piccolo to 300 MHz Delfino.
